Biostimulation

Precision nutrient strategies — guided by molecular profiling — activate native microbial pathways to degrade contaminants.

Bioaugmentation

Spatially structured native microbial consortia engineered via iACME and LUME platforms for synergistic pollutant removal.

Biomaterials

Aerogels, biochar, and microencapsulation act as active barriers — trapping pollutants and supporting staged microbial release.

Native macrophytes such as Iris pseudacorus and Typha angustifolia absorb heavy metals, microplastics and organic pollutants from water and sediment. Their roots also support microbial communities that help break down contaminants. FLOWSAFE adapts phytoremediation to real flood conditions.

Biostimulation

FLOWSAFE uses metagenomics and metabarcoding to identify native microorganisms capable of degrading pollutants. Targeted nutrients and electron donors stimulate these communities to naturally break down pharmaceuticals, pesticides and persistent organic pollutants.

Bioaugmentation

The iACME platform identifies the most effective combinations of native microbial consortia for specific pollutants. The LUME platform structures them into aerobic and anaerobic microzones, supporting simultaneous organic pollutant degradation and metal immobilisation.

Biomaterials

Bio-based aerogels and biochar made from local biowaste capture pollutants, support microbial growth and enhance degradation. Microencapsulation enables controlled delivery of microbial consortia and biostimulants for stable, long-term remediation.
