Why FLOWSAFE Matters

Floods are among the most destructive natural hazards affecting ecosystems across Europe. Beyond the immediate damage, they leave long-term environmental impacts, including contaminated soils and sediments, degraded water quality, habitat loss, and reduced biodiversity. Addressing these complex challenges requires innovative restoration strategies that combine scientific research, nature-based solutions and advanced environmental monitoring.

FLOWSAFE was created to develop practical, evidence-based approaches that support ecosystem recovery, strengthen climate resilience and contribute to sustainable floodplain management across Europe.
